Old age doesn’t slow down metabolism?
The age old saying “my body doesn’t work like it used to”. Is there actually any truth to that?
Of course there is some truth to it, as you age your ability to recover and adapt is dampened. The body doesn’t function as optimal physically due to the fact as we age our brains begin to require more energy due to biology yes, however more of it has to do with lifestyle.
We obtain higher level jobs, we have children or pets, we have mortgages and loans and payments, etc.
More responsibility is on the mind, which requires energy and less energy is used for physicality.
This has less to do with the actual age and has more to do with, what I mentioned previously, lifestyle.
So if we can’t spend as much energy on our physicality (lets say working out) as before, “How can I reverse my ever-changing slow metabolism?”. Instead of training hard, we need to train smart. Welcome to Full Body Strength Training!
Old age plays a role, yet a negligent one when matched with a body that stays fit and healthy with lifting weights/building muscle.
Muscle as we age becomes even more important for overall health reasons alike. Muscle is one of the best indicators of “Quality of Life”.
To wrap things up clearly, Old Age doesn’t directly link to slowing of metabolism. Slowing of metabolism has more to do with muscle loss because of lower levels of physicality in our more adult lives. To counter these effects follow the tips here:
Maintain a High Protein Diet comprised of mostly Natural Food Sources.
Make Lifting Weights for the purpose of gaining strength your main form of exercise.
Understand that while you may not be able to recover like a 20 year old, you can still put in effort.
The excuse of “old age” has some merit, however it shouldn’t be the main make-up of your life. Even though you’re aging you can still see phenomenal results with proper training and working with your body.
